Victoria Royals Press Release:

Victoria, BC– The Victoria Royals were edged 4-3 by the Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday night at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

The Rockets were led by Kole Lind who tallied three assists, while Calvin Thurkauf scored the game winner late in the third period. Kelowna’s other goals were registered by Tomas Soustal, Dillon Dube and Cal Foote.

The Royals’ Vladimir Bobylev tallied the opening marker for Victoria in the second period and added two assists to earn second star honours. Victoria’s Ryan Peckford recorded a goal in the middle frame, while Matthew Phillips scored in the third period.

Victoria netminder Griffen Outhouse turned aside 32 of the 36 shots fired his way. Rockets’ goalie Michael Herringer stopped 19 of the 22 shots he faced.

The Royals held a mark of 1/8=12.5% on the man-advantage, whereas Kelowna went 1/4=25.0%.

Victoria faces Kelowna again on Friday for Eco-Night. The first 2,500 fans will receive a Royals’ Reusable Fabric Bag courtesy of BYD (limit of one per person). Royals’ Ticket Pack Holders will have first access to the bags from 6:00-6:30 p.m. The Royals will then play the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday night. Kelowna Rockets Press Release:

The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Victoria Royals 4-3 on Wednesday night in Victoria.

The Rockets led 1-0 after the first on a goal that came from Tomas Soustal.

The Royals stormed back in the middle stanza taking a 2-1 lead over the Rockets.

Dillon Dube tied the game 8:32 into the third. The Royals quickly responded three minutes following that. 2:37 after that Cal Foote tied the game again for the Rockets. Just 38 seconds after that Calvin Thurkauf put the Rockets ahead 4-3 and they held on for the comeback victory.

Kelowna was 1-for-4 on the power play on the evening while their penalty kill was 7-for-8.

Michael Herringer improved to 18-10-2-0 on the season.

The Rockets improved to 25-15-2-0 on the year.

Kelowna is back in action again on Friday night for game two of two in Victoria before they head to Everett for a Monday afternoon battle.

Kelowna is back at home again on January 18th when they host the Moose Jaw Warriors.
